Week 2 - in Brisbane

As suspected all along, the will power was sadly lacking.  Turns out this was a bad week to get into fitness!  It was Brian’s last week in Sydney, so with celebrating, eating out, drinking and finishing as much of our supplies in the fridge off as possible, it’s been a bit of a write off.

Add to that some major pressure on the work side to get a rather large project released by today, which kept me in the office all week without much sunshine.

We flew up to Brisbane this evening, and have just settled in for the night.  Looks like I’ve got broadband courtesy of the Dopod as a Bluetooth wireless modem (I’m mentioning this purely for Brian’s benefit so he will cringe as I yet again mention the “D” word), so in theory I can move up here as soon as we’ve got a house and stay connected.

Will be up here for a few days inspecting houses for rent before flying back to Sydney alone to pack up.  I’ll probably be there for a couple of weeks on my own (cue more drinkies nights) but will try to take better care of myself. As if the tape measure wasn’t bad enough, Brian’s parents made it clear that the two of us bear more than a passing resemblance to Buddha!  Ah well, more incentive to get on with it I guess.

First check-in

One completely exhausting run, 3 hour nightclub dancing experience, healthy eating weekend later and I’m already down 1cm.  Obviously I’m not expecting this rate to continue, but if I can knock off about 2cm a week I’ll be happy.

Weather looks shit today.  Guess I’ll be running in the rain!

Moving on

The past few months have been eventful. My 30th birthday in the Wollombi, in beautiful Hunter Valley alone with Brian. A Christmas road trip to Adelaide. A 5 week south-east Asian holiday. And of course work up to the eyeballs.

Well, a couple of things are changing as of this moment:

  1. Brian has a job in Brisbane, so as Frank Sinatra said, “Start spreading the news…” - we’re heading out of Sydney and up to sunny Brisvegas! Brian leaves next Saturday, and I as soon as he’s got a place sorted out up there.
  2. The past few months, combined with cutting out the gym work, have pushed me over the edge weight-wise. I’ve got a BMI of 34, a waist of 113cm, and pant like a steam train going up the stairs in our house. No matter which way you look at it, I’m a fat bastard.

I’ve started work on the second problem today, taking my first run in 4 months. I ran about 2/3 of the distance from our house to Erskineville oval (walking the rest of the way), about 2 laps of the oval itself, then about 1/4 of the way back home again (up hill). It’s a rough start, but let’s see how long my willpower holds up in terms of not eating shit food, and getting in at least half an hour of exercise a day.
